Conservative Councillor Richard lives at Shurnhold, Melksham, with his wife Pamela, they have three older children. A local man, he works in construction and development. He has been involved with Melksham Town Council since 1974, as Chairman he signed the town's twinning charter with the French town of Avon in 1980 and looks forward to the 30th anniversary. He helped establish the Rachel Fowler Centre and the early renovations of the Assembly Hall. Joining the Town Council again in 2003 he strongly supported Knorr-Bremse and other employment for the area. He has encouraged the thriving town cinema; the town centre improvement scheme; the Lidl development and new Countrywide and ASDA stores; also the new Town Crier competition and Food Festival. He has been aware of the tremendous contribution to the town made by our voluntary groups, he is pleased the grants to these have increased. He believes that a restored Wilts and Berks canal will regenerate the river area of Melksham adding to the character and prosperity of our town.
